‘bowler’ hats

There are several late 18th and early 19th century illustrations of women wearing ‘bowler’ hats.

The bowler-shaped hat was not unique to the women of Wales. Illustrations of working women in England wearing such hats were included in William Alexander’s ‘Picturesque representations of the dress and manners of the English’ (1814) and Thomas Busby’s ‘Costume of the lower orders of London’, (1820).
